Overlooked Town Garden

Oxford

Summary

A neglected and overlooked garden that has been updated with sensitive redesign and renovation. My clients are a professional couple with long work hours who want a relaxing haven to enjoy. The garden is in a conservation area and planting has been chosen that will benefit wildlife.

Raised oak beds make the terrace look larger and lusher and it has become a pleasure to enjoy a sunny morning coffee here. Herbs are planted in the sunnier beds, shade tolerant plants are used elsewhere.

The secluded bottom end of the garden gave the opportunity to create an area with an atmosphere of its own. A cedar trellis and arch increases the privacy separating it from the main garden and overlooking houses. There is a contemporary wildlife pond providing the gentle sound of moving water and attracting frogs, newts and dragonflies. On warm evenings copper spread lights provide soft lighting.

The main garden has been reshaped and turfed, the addition of shrubs, perennials and grasses renovating the planting . All planting is relatively low maintenance in  a colour palette of soft pinks, purples and whites. The small front garden has been made more attractive with low raised beds with shade-loving plants and early bulbs.

Testimonial

Overlooked Town Garden- The process of designing our garden with Pippa’s support was a pleasure.  She listened to our thoughts carefully and, using her knowledge of plants and her creative flair for design, translated our ideas into reality. The planting colour scheme was perfect and the range of plants that she introduced have added interest and variety throughout the cycle of the year.  As a result of Pippa’s work, we have a tranquil town garden that is a haven for both people and wildlife.
